A.E. Santana has over ten years experience as an editor and is certified in Chicago Manual of Style and AP Style. She has worked with authors on short stories, novellas, novels, articles/essays, and plays. She has degrees in journalism, mass communications, and creative writing.

Developmental Editing
For individual authors and publishers. Open to short stories, novellas, novels, and scripts. Developmental edits consists of:

Strengthen the overall manuscript.

Assisting the author in connecting with their audience through style, theme, voice, tone, etc.

Fix issues with plot holes, characterization, organization, chronology, etc.
What’s Involved

Evaluating character arcs, plot structure, pacing, and themes.

Recommending scene additions or removals.

Deepening character motivations.

Clarifying narrative voice.

Enhancing organization, structure, argument, scope, and audience engagement.
Clients will receive developmental edits in an electronic PDF different from the client's manuscript. Timeline based on the length of the client's manuscript.

Please note that developmental edits are conducted in the early stages of the writing process, before copyediting/line editing. This is a separate service from Line Editing.

Line Editing
For individual authors and publishers. Open to short stories, novellas, novels, and scripts. Line edits will focus on:

Identifying run-on sentences, unnecessary words, and redundancies.

Detecting and correct shifts in tone.

Ensuring phrasing is natural, clear, and consistent.

Enhancing pacing for better readability.
-
Ensuring the story is effectively communicated.

Refining writing style, flow, readability, grammar, sentence structure, and word choice.
Clients will receive line edits via Track Changes in an electronic Word Doc of their manuscript. Timeline based on the length of the client's manuscript.
This step usually takes place after developmental edits have been completed. This is a separate service from Developmental Editing.
